Mindfulness + Meditation : Resources to help you connect with your spiritual self

Namaste! On a scale of 1 to self-actualization, how zen are you feeling right now? If your inner eye also feels a little groggy, here are a few tips for bringing a daily dose of peace and tranquility into the daily grind.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the act of being present physically, emotionally and spiritually. It’s living in the moment, being present and aware of the physical world around you and your place inside of it as a divine daughter of God.

Mindfulness is a specific meditation practice, but you don’t need to be in a glitzy yoga studio with burning incense and a SUPER focused chi. Daily mindfulness is simply a way of checking in with your higher, holier self.

Let's practice
Practicing mindfulness can look like any of the following:

  • Diaphragmatic breathing - a specific breathing technique you can learn more about here
  • Relaxing the tense muscles around your shoulders and neck
  • Taking a brief inventory of the sensory experiences around you (what can you hear, smell, or feel?) and leaning into that moment
  • Taking a moment to try and clear your mind. Think of each thought as a helium-filled balloon you release into the sky. As new thoughts float into your consciousness, release them into the sky and refocus on clearing your mind.

Studies have shown this practice of being so fully present helps decrease and combat anxiety, alleviate depression, and promote overall physical and mental well-being.
